How To Select Art To Collect
If you’re new to collecting original art it’s normal to have questions, doubts, and nervous excitement when deciding whether or not to but the art.
Nothing can elevate your space like original artwork can. But still it can be scary or overwhelming.
If you’re new to purchasing original art here are some of my tips to guide you to more confidence.
How To Select Art To Collect
There’s more than one right way to select art to purchase.
Some buy based on the size needed for a desired space. Some buy to match the decor. Some buy because they want a return on investment.
There’s nothing wrong with choosing art based on those things, in fact the more clarity and intention the better, especially if you commission a piece. But here’s what I think is the most important way to buy art…
The most important thing to know when selecting art to buy… Buy art that moves you when you come across it.
You have a connection to the piece or the artist. You enjoy it. It makes you pause or feel. Trust that connection.
You can find the right place for it - that’s secondary. It’s not about matching a certain color, although it can and there’s nothing wrong with that.
But more importantly it’s about designing a home and space that reflects you and your personality. Build your collection based on your likings. Not what’s trendy. Or what others might think. Your home should be a unique reflection of you.
